A rational, compassionate divorce attorney who is paying attention.

Your family is in transition.

I will serve as a grounding, strategic advisor and guide you through to the freedom and peace on the other side.

Family law isn’t all that complicated. The legislature keeps it simple by design. But every aspect of a family law matter is high stakes because all of your most life-felt needs are implicated: the wellbeing of your children, your financial security, and the future of your family system.

Whether you are navigating a divorce or legal separation, establishing custody and visitation, or negotiating support or a prenuptial agreement, you need to be able to trust that your attorney is fully alert, tracking all of the details, and leading you through the process with clarity, strength, and heart.

I am an economics nerd at the core so I am financially-literate and well-informed about the complicated financial instruments and arrangements that are often in-play in Silicon Valley divorces. Many divorce attorneys get overwhelmed by complicated finances. You won’t get a glazed-over look from me when you mention a SPAC — instead, you will have a sophisticated advocate for your best interests in work with accountants and other outside experts.

I understand the emotional and financial toll that a divorce or legal separation can have on a family. My goal is to seek strategic, positive-sum, civilized means through every matter I am in involved with and to support my clients in resolving their matters efficiently and with dignity. I will simplify the arcane processes so that the unknowns seem a little less overwhelming and treat your case like a chess match: mindfully planning our approach so as to optimize for long-term success.

I work with family law clients residing in the Bay Area counties of San Mateo, Marin, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara.

I accept divorce coaching clients from all over California and, to a lesser degree, in other states.

Quality of Attention

I run a lean, fully-remote practice with minimal overhead so that I can focus where it matters: on your legal needs. I take a limited number of clients and then give those clients high-touch support and presence. You won’t be churned through a legal machine in my office. Rather than a tangled hierarchy of partners and associates communicating piecemeal about your matter, and charging you for that “honor,” I manage your case top-to-bottom with an unmatched quality of attention.

I play it straight.

I will not beat around the bush with you. As I thoroughly review the details relevant to your case, I will be forthcoming with you about where things stand, how I think we should proceed in service of your goals, and what you need to do to set yourself up for success in your custody matter, the division of assets and debts, or settlement negotiations. Many clients complain that prior attorneys weren’t willing to be direct with them and tried to “manage them” and their expectations, rather than being an honest, forthright teammate on the case. I will actually answer your questions, including naming unknowns, identifying potential risks, and then working with you to optimize our strategy for your specific circumstances.

Head-Heart Integrated Advocacy

I understand that emotions run high in even the most amicable family law scenarios. A family in transition is a delicate system that needs to be handled with finesse. My clients benefit from my capacity to hold intense emotions in a grounded way, keeping everyone focused on the action items needed to push the legal matter towards efficient resolution. Benjamin Family Law is a head-heart integrated practice, meaning I bring the attunement and skills needed to navigate your family’s emotional landscape while remaining keenly focused on the practical details, acting with precision and intention on your behalf, and advocating for your best interests as to the long-term outcomes.
